Formation of the Probus movement was generally inspired by members of Rotary International, in our case in 1977 by the Rotary Club of Twickenham. It has one important outward-looking aim, to raise money for charity, and one important inward-looking aim to provide a meeting space for retirees seeking regular contact with others outside their home environment and who value the opportunity to meet those in similar circumstances.

The working history of our members is diverse, including professionals, businessmen and women plus many others from a wide variety of backgrounds and from all walks of life. Membership is open to all aged fifty and over and we currently number around thirty. This has created an unparalleled atmosphere amongst our members, all of whom gain in the richness and depth of newly found friendships which is evident at our regular lunch meetings. These take place once a month and there is usually a presentation, either by one of our members or an invited speaker.

Partners are always welcome to enjoy our fellowship, good company and excellent dining facilities, plus our diverse presentation subjects. Our traditional Christmas lunches are particularly well attended by family members, who sometimes go on to join us as club members themselves.

The Club is autonomous and creates its own rules. It is not a registered charity itself but does support a variety of local charities through donations which are raised via membership subscriptions, monthly raffles and local summer season fair bric-a-brac sales.
